Every crew needs a place where the plan is to have no plan. The Chill Zone is that place, a little tropical hideout where the flowers are loud, the birds are louder, and the only schedule anyone follows is the one set by the sun. Four residents, each with a cold one close by, each taking relaxation very seriously.
The birds in charge
A blue and gold macaw perches on a branch surrounded by yellow hibiscus, pink blossoms and big green palm leaves, a bottle of beer standing right beside him like he ordered it an hour ago and is in no hurry. Over on the next branch, a toucan with a rainbow bill sits among bright orange and red fronds next to a tall glass swirled in sunset colors, foam spilling over the top. Both are painted in lush watercolor, the kind of art that makes you hear a steel drum somewhere in the distance.
The shoreline regular
Against a deep black background, a teal seahorse with a golden crest curls up on a tiny sandy island, one fin wrapped around a frothy pint. There are ferns behind him, a lime wedge and a starfish at his feet, and a pink flower tucked in for good measure. The dark ground makes every color glow, so this one reads like a beach bar sign after sundown.
The one who did not get the memo
And then there is the otter. Everyone else is lounging, and he is riding a skateboard across a splash of icy blue water, beer held out like a torch, grinning like this is the calmest thing he has ever done. Every chill group has one member whose idea of relaxing involves wheels and a little speed. He is theirs.
For the one who lives on vacation time
This is for the friend who packs a hammock before a toothbrush, the neighbor who has the patio lights on by four, the coworker counting down to the next beach week, and the retiree who has made island time a full lifestyle. Pick the parrot for the one who keeps the conversation going, the toucan for the colorful one, the seahorse for the night owl at the tiki bar, and the otter for the one who cannot sit still even on vacation. The sun is going down slowly, and nobody in the Chill Zone is rushing it.
