Conditions are excellent. Swell is building, the sun is low, and the lineup is packed with surfers who have no business being this good. The Surfing collection is a morning report from the least likely break on the coast, where every rider drops in with a beer in hand and not one of them has ever heard of a leash.
The locals with teeth
The sharks own this break and they know it. One bursts straight up out of a curling wave with its jaws wide, framed by a burning orange sunset. Another launches over the water past a pair of palm trees, and a third carves a clean line on a surfboard with a frosty pint held out like a trophy. On the sunny side of the lineup, a grinning dolphin leaps from the spray right beside a tall glass of beer balanced on its board. These designs pop hardest against a dark background, all electric blue water and bright gold light.
The rest of the lineup
The watercolor crew has a very different energy. A little monkey stands tall on a board inside a towering barrel, mug up, and a chimp crouches low on the next wave looking like he has done this for years. An elephant in every color of the rainbow balances on a paddleboard with his beer parked by his front feet. A lobster rides the face of a wave, claws out, still somehow keeping his drink level. A meerkat in sunglasses and a loud beach print skims past under a yellow sail, pint raised to the crowd on the sand.
Beach legends
A few riders earned the vintage treatment. A skeleton surfs the curl with a beer in one hand inside a retro poster that reads Catchin' Waves, Ditchin' the Grave. A sloth rides a sunlit wave with a mug and zero urgency, which is the only way a sloth does anything. A furry little fellow powers across the whitewater holding a bottle high, and a bear in bold silhouette hangs on to his mug inside a golden sun ringed with loose script lettering.
For the one who paddles out at dawn
This is for the surfer who checks the forecast before the weather, the friend who owns one wetsuit and three boards, the parent who took up surfing at fifty and is honestly getting pretty good, and the beach regular who has never stood up on a board but will happily tell you how it is done. Choose the rider that matches their style: the shark for the fearless one, the sloth for the one who sleeps through the dawn session, the lobster for the one who always leaves the water a little red. The next set is rolling in, and the sloth is still paddling for the one before it.
