The Sun & Waves Gang is what happens when an entire animal kingdom hears the surf is up and decides lessons are for other people. Every member of this crew paddles out with a cold one in hand and a look that says they have absolutely done this before. They have not. That is the fun part.
The shark squad
Sharks run this beach, and they know it. Surf Shark rides a curling wave in front of a blazing orange sunset, Surfing Shark Tides launches straight out of the whitewater with a grin full of teeth, and Sand Surfer Shark sails over a sunset circle and a pair of palm trees like the ocean owes him money. WindSurfer Shark keeps it simple: board, wave, beer held high and dry. Somewhere in the lineup a dolphin shows up on a board of his own, beer raised, looking a lot friendlier than the competition.
Unlikely athletes on board
Then come the ones nobody expected to see past the sandbar. Surf, Snooze, Repeat puts a sloth on a board, beer steady, moving at exactly the speed the wave allows. Wombat Waves sends a stocky wombat charging through the spray, Surfin Simian crouches low like a chimp who watched one video and went for it, and Surfin Pacaderm balances a whole painted elephant on a board that deserves a medal. Windsurfer Meerkat grips the sail in shades, the Surfing Lobster rides a curl in full red armor, and the otter from Otter Chill cruises in with a cold one and zero concern.
Dressed for the harbor
Not everyone came to get wet. Sailor Bunny stands at attention in a navy coat and a red bow tie, beer at the ready, and Sailor Mess Fox wears the same brass buttons with the calm of a captain who left the steering to someone else. Seahorse Chill lounges among tropical flowers, and a turtle in sunglasses splashes up with his drink held high. Catchin' Waves brings the oldest surfer on the beach, a skeleton on a board under the motto Ditchin' the Grave, proof that some people never retire from the lineup.
For the one who paddles out first
This gang belongs to the person who says watch this at the water's edge, the one who claims they surfed once in college and will not elaborate. Maybe it is your brother who rents a board every vacation and spends most of it horizontal. Maybe it is the friend whose idea of beach prep is sunscreen on one arm. Pick the animal that matches their technique, then stand back, because the next wave is already rolling in and somebody has to hold the beer.
