Imagine a summer games where nobody tried out and everybody made the team. The Elite Summer Sports Showdown is that competition: a skeleton in the boxing ring, an elephant on a skateboard, and a whole bench of ocean athletes who treat every event as a chance to show off. There are no judges. There is only confidence and a cold drink for the podium.
Main events on dry land
Boxing Skeleton stands in the corner of the ring in big red gloves, all bones and bravado, a mug in his other hand and a sunset glowing behind the ropes. He has no muscles and has never once let that stop him. Skateboard Stomper is an elephant rolling downhill on a skateboard, beer curled in his trunk, kicking up dust under a line that dares you to beat it. Nobody is going to beat it. Nobody else is going to try.
The water events
Otter Kayaking Strokes paddles a bright yellow kayak in dark shades, cool as anything, while Kayak Shark takes the next lane over grinning with every tooth he owns. Surfing Shark Tides launches straight up out of a crashing wave, and Surfing Lobster rides a board through a towering curl with his claw in the air and his drink held level. There is also a leaping shark on the entry list for tennis, although he seems to have left the racket at home and brought a mug instead.
The seahorse delegation
Three seahorses made the roster, and none of them are here to sweat. Seahorse Chill lounges among tropical flowers with a fresh drink. Seahorse Sentinel keeps watch from a swirl of blue water, beer steady, and Firefighter Seahorse wears the helmet and handles the hose, which is technically a water sport if you ask him.
For the weekend champion
These designs are for the person who turns every backyard game into a championship and every lake trip into a race to the dock. He keeps a scoreboard for cornhole. She challenged her nephew to a skateboard contest at the family reunion and has the scraped elbow to prove she won. When you see the elephant on the board, you will think of exactly who would try it, because that is SO them. Hand out the medals, pour the lemonade and let the lobster take a victory lap. He caught the biggest wave of the day and has not stopped talking about it.
