Divers love to say the best views are below the surface. One member of this crew agrees completely. The other one heard the word dive, grabbed a parachute and headed for the clouds. The Scuba & Snorkeling collection is a two-person dive team with very different ideas about which way is down.
The deep sea specialist
Here is the joke every diver has made at least once: the fish would be much better at this. So a big, round-faced fish went ahead and suited up. He wears a full old-school dive rig, twin air cylinders strapped to his back, a heavy vest loaded with weights, a coiled hose curling over one shoulder and a patch on the arm like he belongs to an official dive club. He is surfacing through a swirl of deep blue water, holding up a frothy mug with enormous satisfaction, while a little fish swims past overhead looking deeply confused. The watercolor style keeps him soft and shimmery, all ocean blues and brassy gold fittings.
The other kind of dive
The skeleton took a different reading of the assignment. He is in free fall, jacket flapping, parachute pack strapped on, one bony hand waving hello at the sky and the other gripping a foaming mug that has somehow not spilled a drop at terminal velocity. Bold black lettering frames him above and below, and little motion lines burst out around him like he just left the plane two seconds ago. He is the dive buddy who swore he read the trip itinerary.
Better together
Put the pair side by side and you have the full range of adventure, from the bottom of the reef to the top of the sky. The fish is calm, careful and very well equipped. The skeleton is enthusiastic and pointed in entirely the wrong direction. Every dive group has both.
For the one who logs every dive
This is for the certified diver with a stack of logbooks and a story about every reef, the snorkeler who spent the whole vacation face down in the water and loved every minute, the friend who went skydiving once and has mentioned it at every dinner since, and anyone who has ever said I will try anything once. Hand them the fish if they love the ocean and the skeleton if they love the fall. Either way, the beer surfaces with them.
