Grinding Rails With a Skeleton, an Elephant and Two Very Loud Parrots

Every skate park has a crew that shows up after school and never really leaves. The Skateboard collection is that crew, except nobody in it has ever been asked for ID and at least one of them weighs several tons. These riders roll in with four wheels, one drink and absolutely no plan to take it easy.

Street legends

Skater Skeleton carves across the art in a brown hoodie and ripped jeans, spray kicking up off his wheels, one bony hand flung out for balance and the other gripping a mug of beer. The words around him say Grindin' Bones on the Rails, which is less a slogan and more a lifestyle choice. Right behind him, Skateboard Stomper puts a full-grown elephant on a board, trunk curled around a foaming mug, legs braced and dust flying, with a dare printed beside him in bold red and blue letters: Bet You Can't Beat This. Nobody has taken him up on it. Nobody is going to.

Birds and a fish, somehow

Skater Dude Parrot rides in with bright red, green and blue wings spread wide like he is about to take off mid-trick, a pint clutched in one wing. Skater Parrot plays it cooler, perched on his board with his feathers tucked in and a beer raised in salute, looking like he has already landed the trick and is waiting for applause. Then there is Skater Dude Shark, a great white bursting out of a wave on black, jaws open, riding a skateboard straight out of the water. Nobody explained to him that skateboards belong on concrete. He found out on his own and did not care.

For the one who still has the scars and the stories

This collection is for the kid who taught himself to ollie in the driveway, and for the grown-up who still has the board in the garage and swears he could land a kickflip if he really wanted to. It is for the skate mom who drives the carpool, the uncle who rolls through the park on a longboard, and the friend who still stops to watch every skater at the plaza. Give them their rider and let them pick a fight with the curb out front. The elephant already did, and the curb lost.
