Chillaxing Beach Bums is the collection for the part of vacation that begins right after the itinerary gets lost. Nobody here has a plan, a schedule or a reason to check their email. They have sand, sun and a cold drink, and they intend to protect all three with their lives.
Professional loungers
Beachy Iguana sets the standard. He parks himself on the shoreline in red sunglasses and a crisp white top, spikes glowing in every color of a beach sunset, with a frosty beer and a lemon wedge he is clearly very proud of. Seahorse Chill has claimed a private little island of palm fronds, hibiscus and citrus slices, beer tucked under one fin, looking like he booked the whole resort. And the otter from Otter Chill has found the ultimate beach hack: roll through the splash on a skateboard so you never have to swim back.
The ones who could not sit still
Every beach trip has a few who insist on doing something. Wombat Waves lasted about four minutes on the towel before grabbing a board and a bottle and heading for the break, sunset blazing behind him. The dolphin balances on a bright blue board, splash flying, beer raised like a trophy he awarded himself. And the skeleton of Catchin' Waves took one look at eternal rest, decided the waves were better, and has been riding them ever since.
For the friend who is always on island time
This is for the person whose phone goes on do not disturb the moment the car door opens. The aunt who packs four novels and reads none of them. The buddy who shows up to the cookout in flip flops in October and will not hear a word about it. Everyone knows one: a calendar full of other people's deadlines and a heart permanently parked under an umbrella. Give them their spirit animal and let them get back to the important work of doing absolutely nothing. The iguana has saved them a spot, and he is not moving his chair.
